Crossing the Appomattox:
Genito Bridge-
Bevill's Bridge- http://lionsserve.org/album_pic.php?pic_id=470 Anderson's Corps including W.H.F. Lee's Division of Cavalry arrived the evening of April 3, 1865, via Greenes Rd from Namozine Church and then North on Old Richmond Rd. The crossing on this route at Deep Creek was difficult due to the high water. Units previously ordered to follow were detoured to the left at Namozine Church because the crossing at the lower point on Deep Creek was impassable. They were rerouted to the Deep Creek crossing just south of Tabernacle Church on current day Rt. 153. W.H.F. Lee's orders were to hold Bevill's Bridge for R.E. Lee's retreating army. Though the bridge was secured by W.H.F.Lee, most of Longstreet's men crossed at Goodes Bridge (just north of Bevill's Bridge). The reason for the detour of Longstreet's men to Goode's Bridge being the issue of swolen creeks and rivers. The road to Goode's bridge follows a ridge line and avoids many smaller crossings. Bevill's Bridge is on River Road. The Confederates north of the Appomattox turned off of River Road onto Beech Road and then to Beaver Bridge Rd towards Goode's Bridge. Some Confederates South of the Appomattox in Pickett's and Anderson's units retreated west on Namozine Road from Namozine road and then onto Cralles Rd.

Goodes Bridge-
Tabernacle Church-The Confederates south of the Appomattox via Namozine Road passed by this church site on their way to Amelia Courthouse. The current day church was rebuilt after a fire that destroyed the original building in the past twenty years. Anderson and W.H.F. Lee's Division of Cavalry did not pass by this church though they were on the south side of the Appomattox. They were ordered to protect the west side of Bevill's Bridge. They would have moved directly to Scott's Fork via Bevill's Bridge Road and then straight into Amelia Courthouse. http://lionsserve.org/album_pic.php?pic_id=475
